Let’s continue on with busting some myths in regards to agriculture with a topic I’m passionate about – women in ag.
Women are a vital part of the agriculture industry. They’ve always been but it’s fun to see the data starting to show it now as well.
According to the USDA Census there was a 15% increase in primary female producers in ag.
Now here’s where it can get a little sticky.
I’m not classified as a primary producer on our ranch as Mike is. Which I’m absolutely fine with too. But…there isn’t a loan, account or decision that we don’t do together. We are full partners on our place so don’t let the primary producer label fool you.
There are many operations just like ours out there as well. So while the numbers might not show the full picture, women are an integral part of the ranching and farming world.
Another interesting stat is that 97% of the over 2 million farms and ranches in the USA are family owned and operated. Trust me, it takes a family to keep it going.
That looks different for each of us. Different seasons of life bring different responsibilities and roles for each family member as well.
