I have been known to overthink things from time to time. That includes me writing. We do need to be careful with our words and weigh our words. Polishing it up is a good idea most of the time as well. That said, I love to do a free write from time to time. Joining in with Five Minute Friday is so much fun for me. No pressure! Simply a word prompt on twitter (#fmfparty) on Thursday night and then write. No overthinking or editing. There is a linkup on Friday at http://katemotaung.com where we can read other’s five minute free write. This week’s prompt is: TRY
GO…
I tried hard not to gag as I took a drink out of my water without looking first. I was too absorbed in the world around me to take the time to look down. Unfortunately, reality quickly bumped into me. LITERALLY!
There was a fly jostling around against my lip. Oh so gross! *Shivers* I wasn’t near a sink and for some reason tried to hold the water in instead of just drinking what was in my mouth. The fly was still floating lifelessly in the glass. I made a mad dash for the sink desperately trying not to trip over the cat standing between me and relief.
Hurdler’s had nothing on me as I sailed over Tootsie and spewed water all over the kitchen sink. Spitting and rinsing my mouth out repeatedly. Yuck!
Now I’m sure some of you are saying, “Come on, it’s just a fly” and I get that. Heck I’ve swallowed too many bugs to count due to my tendency to open my mouth a “bit” more often than most. More than anything it was the startle factor for me. I was off in “la-la land” and just about let something slip right in and contaminate me.
Father, please help me pay more attention to what I’m taking in. I want to keep my eyes focused on You and try to be more aware of what I allow into my life.
I like it. I would totally go into full on gag affect when I have a texture I am not expecting! and I really appreciate the way you tied in paying attention to what we're taking in, on being present. I, too, am working on it!
good writing.
Thanks! So glad to know I'm not the only person working on being more present,
Thank you! Glad you stopped by.
Laura,
thanks for your visit. And thanks for such a great story! You shared so much emotion and I could imagine the disgust and the horror and the cat-tripping! (I drank from a water bottle in May that still had a deer tick in it that my friend had captured…not knowing it was the same one. I had filled it and drank and sealed the lid before I glanced down and saw that magnified hairy body. Eew eew eew!!! I shrieked and threw the bottle across the room!)
So, I can really say I "know how you feel".
Delighted for your visit! And, I hope you DO get to do a "try-athlon" someday.
Love,
Tammy (#4 this week)

Tammy, thanks for your kind words, When my oldest was 2 years old I was on the phone with my mom and looked over to see him grab a big fat tick! We were hanging out with the dog and he must have had one and my son found it. Not only did he grab it he was headed to his mouth with it thinking it was an M&M. I about gave my mom a heart attack as I screamed and ran to get it from him. Still grosses me out 18 years later!
Take care,
Laura
Eww a fly would be disgusting. A spider would be worse. I have learned the hard way to always look if possible before eating or drinking. Sometimes we receive a great surprise.
It's a good prayer always to request that our eyes remain open.
I've unfortunately swallowed a grasshopper once! Racing on a horse with my mouth open laughing. Yeah, that kind of sums me up. Thanks for stopping by!
Lol, I agree with you. Even flies to me are disgusting, especially by my mouth, eek. This is my first time hearing about writing prompts on twitter. I'm going to have to check that out :] Have you heard of twitter chats or taken part in one? I recently took part in some and loved it! But they're more related to design, business, social media and blogging. Now I'm looking for more faith related twitter chats, if you happen to know of any.
