Have you ever heard the parable about the lost sheep. In Matthew 18 and Luke 15 Jesus shares a parable about the shepherd leaving the 99 sheep to retrieve the one who has wandered off and gotten lost.
Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Doesn’t he leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? Luke 15:4
Let me speak from first hand experience. When sheep get separated from the flock and their shepherd (in my case my guardian dog also helps me here) they don’t think clearly at all. They are desperate and make desperate choices.
They become extremely vulnerable to predators.
If left alone out there the likelihood they’ll die is very high. It is crucial we help her find her way back.
Jesus doesn’t want any of us to perish. He’ll leave the 99 in a safe place and go after the ONE!
I love that illustration of how Jesus would have come even if it was just for one. Just for me. Just for you. He would leave Heaven and come down to retrieve the ONE He loves.
One of the neat things about having sheep is getting a lot of the illustrations from the Bible right smack dab in your face.
Join me on this YouTube video, Memories, Music and Maggie, where I share a couple of short stories about lessons from sheep.
That dog and lamb on the hill brought this lesson home to me in such a tangible way and I hope it helps you as well.
Also, I share a short story about a lamb named Maggie. She will forever be a reminder for me not to quit when things get hard. God doesn’t quit on me and I will continue to draw on His strength when times get hard.
While you’re over there, would you like, comment, share and/or subscribe? It sure helps a girl on getting the message out.
