Have you ever had multiple choices and you get stuck trying to decide which one to choose? Yeah, me too! Decision fatigue is a real thing and can be a real time suck!
Is it just me that spends a ridiculous amount of time going through my list of pros and cons for everything under the sun?
Hmm, the pro of eating this chocolate bar is that it will taste good. The con is the sugar crash and empty calories. Should I? Shouldn’t I?
Okay, maybe you’re decisions are much bigger than that and you’re struggling to make heads or tails of the right thing to do. Do you flip a coin? Should you continue on with the never ending list making? How about overthinking it just a while longer? Surely that is the best plan right?
Yeah it sounds ridiculous when you read it or say it out loud yet I’m sure I can’t be the only one who repeats these behaviors WAY to often!! We can just chalk it up to human behavior and continue on that hamster wheel or we can try something different!!
What if we started taking all our decisions to God? He truly does want to hear from us!! Share on X
There is freedom in asking Him for guidance with our decisions. The cool thing is God sees the big picture and and He’s not withholding the good stuff from us.
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11
I called my sister the other day and shared with her my utter disgust with myself that I was repeating this dreaded behavior yet again!! It’s not like I don’t know Jesus has the answers. I know where to go to find His truth. There is no need to chase my tail and stress over these decisions but there I found myself AGAIN!!!
So how do we stop all this crazy stressing over decisions?
- First, we need to spend time in God’s word to know His truth.
God’s word has the answers we’re looking for but we have to open it! A dusty, unopened Bible will leave our lives choking on the dust of an overwhelmed life! We have to meet Him there and let Him speak to us through the living and active words of the Bible. It cuts to the very marrow of our bone. God’s word is so sharp it can cut between soul and spirit! We can trust it will get to the heart of our matter too!
- Next, we need to spend time in prayer.
Am I the only one who’s struggled with focus in prayer? Or make the mistake of thinking I’ll just do a few things and then I’ll get back to you God? I’m not proud of that fact but just being honest. We’ll spend all day talking to people and running around like chickens with our heads cut off but taking the time to talk to our Heavenly Father is another matter! The KING of the universe is inviting us to come boldly to His throne room. Why am I not there all throughout the day? Have we lost the awe of how amazing this is? Let’s get on our knees, literally and in our hearts, and meet with Jesus today!!
- Last, we need to trust God with our decision.
I get it. We want to be in control of our lives. Many of us were hurt in the past and carry our shield of control as a way to protect ourselves. When in reality, if we’ll lay that shield down at the foot of the cross and pick up God’s shield of faith we’ll find freedom. No doubt that is sometimes a hard concept to wrap our mind around. But, it’s so like the Kingdom of Heaven to be completely topsy turvy to what we see in this world. It won’t make sense outside of letting the Holy Spirit work in us!
I’m hoping you hear my heart on this and don’t think I’m making light of the decisions we all have to make. Trust me, I understand the weight of decision making.
I know where true wisdom comes from and the power that comes with walking through this decision making process with the ONE who loves us more that we can possibly grasp!
For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth comes knowledge and understanding. Proverbs 2:6
This week let’s spend more time in God’s word and prayer than we do making our lists! Share on X
Will you join me in fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, more than we do on the decisions we need to make? He will make all things clear as we surrender it all to Him!!
Jesus, we love you so much! We know you give wisdom to those who seek it. Help us to search Your word as we pursue understanding and hide your truth in our heart. Thank You for the freedom to come to the throne of grace with boldness, expectant for your mercy and grace in our time of need. Help us to surrender our control and trust You more and more each day! We ask that every decision we make be done in a way that brings You glory and honor. Thank you that You didn’t give us a spirit of fear or timidity but of self control and a sound mind!! Glory to glory Lord. In the name of Jesus, amen.

I’m definitely a decision maker who was always happy in that but going through a certain trial left me so weary that I couldn’t make decisions big or small for a long period of time. Thankful that God brought me out of that again.
So glad to hear God helped you walk through that trial and feeling relief to be able to make decisions again.
